LONDON - The number of climate- and ESG-related lawsuits filed against companies and governments has more than doubled since 2015, according to a new study by the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Entitled 'Global Trends in Climate Change Litigation', the study says that nearly half of the cases last year were filed against fossil fuel companies, but it forcecasts a growing number of sectors - including apparel - will be affected.
"While future trends are hard to predict with certainty, the increase in litigation against agricultural companies may suggest that other high emitting sectors such as heavy-duty industry, textiles, shipping and aviation may be the next targets for litigants," it says.
