LONDON – A new report from animal welfare organisation Four Paws has taken aim at the sportswear sector, with Nike singled out for its lack of action to mitigate mulesed merino wool within its supply chain.
Titled ‘Sweating the details’, the report assessed the ‘anti-mulesing’ commitments of 10 leading brands with a particular focus on Nike, Adidas and Puma – which together account for a third of the market’s value.
Whilst the latter pair have established timebound targets to eliminate mulesed merino wool within their global operations, Nike has reportedly not communicated any measures to reliably exclude mulesed wool from its products and has been urged to do so.
