VICTORIA – Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has invested AU$550,000 (US$393,000) in a new training service which will provide wool growers keen to cease mulesing with expert advice on how to transition away from the controversial practice.
The organisation’s new ‘Moving to a Non-Mulesed Merino Enterprise’ project is part of a six-year programme established to provide stakeholders with insights and options for them to make their own informed decisions.
AWI chairman Jock Laurie commented: “AWI recognises the critical importance of all flystrike prevention measures and continues to support all woolgrowers in their choices through provision of a diversity of best practice information, designed to deliver the best outcomes for sheep, across a range of different climate and operating environments.”
