MEMPHIS – The US Cotton Trust Protocol has been added to the International Trade Centre’s (ITC) Standards Map, which is the world’s largest database for sustainability standards.
Launched to verify sustainability progress through data collection and third-party cooperation, the protocol aligns brands and growers of US cotton in best measuring their impacts across six areas: water use, greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, soil carbon, soil loss and land use efficiency.
Gary Adams, the NGO’s president, said: “Inclusion in the ITC Standards Map signals to businesses and consumers that a trusted independent organisation has verified this information.”
