LUDWIGSHAFEN – Global chemicals company BASF says that a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its Haptex synthetic leather demonstrates significant environmental benefits compared to other synthetic leather solutions.
The LCA study, conducted by Intertek, is based on a total value chain analysis of Haptex from its chemical production to the finished goods. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, cumulative energy demand and water consumption were also calculated and measured.
BASF says Haptex outperformed synthetic leathers from conventional solvent-based and waterborne-based processes, generating 52 per cent less GHG emissions, using 20 per cent less energy and 30 per cent less water.
