VANCOUVER – Global non-profit Textile Exchange says the transition to what it terms 'preferred fibres and materials' must accelerate if the industry is to meet its climate change targets.
The organisation's new Preferred Fiber and Materials Market Report 2021 reveals that the market share of more sustainable fibres and materials grew significantly in 2020, despite the pandemic.
However, it says that with global fibre production - which has doubled in the last 20 years - expected to further increase from 109 million tonnes in 2020 to 146 million tonnes in 2030, urgent action is "non-negotiable".
