LUBBOCK – Industry non-profit Textile Exchange has launched its 2021 Material Change Insights Report which it says shows "glimpses of progress" in sustainable sourcing by global brands and retailers.
Described as the industry's largest peer-to-peer comparison initiative, a total of 292 brands came together to collectively track their efforts towards more sustainable sourcing of raw materials for the report.
It reveals that the use of preferred fibres by participating brands hit 50 per cent for the first time last year, up from 44 per cent in 2020. However, it adds: "Time will tell if this is due to the pandemic, a shift towards preferred, or real progress towards dematerialisation."
