GLASGOW – Today at COP26, environmental non-profit Textile Exchange (TE) has directed a policy request at world leaders, urging that governments embed incentives for the use of more ‘sustainable’ materials in trade law.
Backed by more than 50 fashion industry brands, retailers, manufacturers, innovators and organisations, Textile Exchange’s request states that “cost is one of the key barriers faced by companies looking to shift their supply chains towards environmentally preferred materials”.
It adds that legislation has “the potential to level the playing field financially for companies committed to better materials sourcing, without the reduction in cost being felt by their supply chain or the farmers who grow the fibres”.
