GENEVA - The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) has published its latest annual report in which it reveals that its 'better cotton' now accounts for 23 per cent of global production.
In the 2019-2020 season, BCI retailer and brand members sourced 1.7 million metric tonnes of 'better cotton', a 13 per cent increase on the previous year and a record for the industry.
And it says the total would have been even bigger had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic and its decision to pull out of the Xinjiang region of China over forced labour concerns.
