LONDON – The Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA), with support from US apparel brand J.Crew, has launched its Women Empowerment Programme in Mongolia, in a bid to lift women towards leadership roles in the country’s cashmere sector.
The non-profit, which promotes a sustainability standard for cashmere, says women are currently underrepresented but could “bring tremendous value to the cashmere supply chain”.
Batkhishig Baival, country director of SFA Mongolia, commented: “I am very confident that it is possible to improve the quality of cashmere harvesting and post-harvest management in a shorter period of time through educating and empowering rural women.”
