NEW YORK - The Human Rights Watch NGO is calling on brands and retailers to boycott products - such as cotton - from the Xinjiang region of China over concerns about the use of forced labour.
Human Rights Watch is also calling on the United Nations (UN) to launch an investigation into the treatment of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang which it says could meet the criteria as crimes against humanity.
More than a million Uyghur Muslims are being detained in the Xinjiang region where many are reportedly used as forced labour in the cotton industry which meets around a fifth of global demand.
