CANBERRA – Authorities in the Australian state of Canberra will trial new clothes recycling bins over a six-month period in a bid to combat a rise in illegal dumping and support the circular economy.
Minister for Transport and City Services, Chris Steel, of the ACT Government which covers Canberra and the surrounding area, has given his backing for the initiative, insisting that it offers an outlet for citizens who’ve taken to dumping unwanted items on the streets amidst COVID-19.
“Canberrans love recycling and we want to provide opportunities for people to reuse and recycle textile items like clothing and shoes,” he said.
