DHAKA - The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has released its first sustainability report in which it outlines the country’s apparel sector's commitment to become more environmentally conscious and socially responsible.
The BGMEA, which represents around 4,500 garment factories in Bangladesh, commissioned the independent Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to review its performance on sustainability and social issues for the report.
Bangladesh is the world's second biggest garment manufacturer, after China, and the sector employs about 4.1 million workers and is responsible for more than 80 per cent of the country's export earnings.
