PHNOM PENH – More than 1,200 dismissed garment workers continue to protest in Cambodia over unpaid compensation from their former employer.
Violet Apparel closed its doors at the start of July and is still yet to pay its workforce for lieu of prior notice, unused holidays and seniority indemnity they’re entitled.
Trade union leaders have reportedly been warned about their role in the ongoing protests. Recent months have demonstrated that Cambodian authorities have unlawfully targeted people in such positions of influence and in some instances have arrested them.
