LEICESTER – Fast fashion brand Boohoo has reportedly acquired a former Vauxhall dealership in the UK city of Leicester, which it will transform into a highly-automated garment factory.
It’s said that the Manchester brand bought the site before it became embroiled in allegations that supply chain workers were tasked with operating at full capacity throughout the pandemic for as little as £3.50, which it denies any link to.
Though yet to secure planning permission, Boohoo has reiterated that its sourcing strategy will continue to rely on British suppliers – which provide quick turnaround times – but that automated manufacturing solutions could become much more prevalent.
