STOCKHOLM – Swedish chemicals company OrganoClick has been awarded SEK 1.3 million (around US$130,000) by government research agency Vinnova to further develop its fluorocarbon-free OrganoTex treatment.
The R&D project, called Popfree, will start in September and span two years as the company looks to make its technology – which is biodegradable but only partly bio-based – 100 per cent bio-based.
OrganoTex incorporates plant-based catalysts and organic polymers instead of fluorocarbons to provide an alternative, more sustainable water repellent, that is not bio-accumulative and hormone disturbing as conventional treatments containing PFAS can be.
