WAKEFIELD – Lewis Perkins, president of the Apparel Impact Institute (AII), joins Mike Schragger from the Sustainable Fashion Academy, to outline his vision for accelerating change in the garment industry.

Speaking in the first episode of a new season of the Big Closets Small Planet podcast, Perkins outlines the key steps he believes need to happen to ensure significant industry progress is made.

He argues the case for why he feels a duplication of efforts could slow progress, and warns against starting new projects when existing initiatives could deliver the impact needed.

Perkins told Schragger: "I have four things that are on my mind today. The first one is globally we're standing at a pretty big turning point and the fashion industry really must become a driver to address and tackle the environment issues that are facing our planet and humanity today.

"The second one is that we can't afford to reinvent the wheel now. The third one is that we already know what we need to do - that's the good news. And the fourth one is that collective action is the way we're going to achieve our biggest goals."
