YANGON – Around 200 workers from a garment factory in Myanmar are protesting at the doors of the Yangon region’s government office after a letter sent to its labour department was ignored.
The World Jin Garment Factory’s workforce reported violations of labour rights at their site back in late October and have since gone 50 days without action or even acknowledgment.
While the region’s chief official continues to turn a blind eye, its immigration and human resources minister, Moe Su Kyi, has now stepped in and says she will come to the Labour Arbitration Office on December 23rd to settle their issues in accordance with labour laws.
