BERLIN - Online fashion retailer Zalando has rejected criticisms of its performance management tool - in which workers evaluate each other - which has been compared to Stasi, the notorious former East German secret police.
A report by the Hans Böckler Foundation, the research and education arm of the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB), said Zalando's 'Zonar' system had increased stress and infringed privacy.
It said Zonar had created a climate of fear in which the company's employees felt a constant pressure to perform for fear their colleagues would report any shortcomings to their supervisors.
