HELSINKI – Finnish manufacturer Stora Enso has joined the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, run in collaboration between the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and UN Environment, which aims to eliminate plastic waste and pollution at the source.
Stora Enso says it will contribute to the project by co-operating with customers and suppliers to develop alternatives to plastic packaging based on wood fibres sourced from sustainably managed forests and plantations.
The company also joined the likes of H&M and Ikea Group in the TreeToTextile partnership at the end of 2018, an initiative seeking to develop a new way to produce ‘cost-effective’ man-made cellulose fibres that have similar properties to existing viscose and lyocell textile.
