CALIFORNIA – As it looks to create a common tool to measure sustainability in the textile supply chain, from the smallest manufacturer to the largest apparel brand, the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) says its pilot project with the IDH sustainable trade initiative, which introduces SMEs to the Higg Index is now paying dividends.
The SAC has told Ecotextile News that the project now includes 27 SME brands in nine European countries and says this project could pave the way for governments to realise a scalable, standardised way to measure the environmental footprint of textiles and clothing in Europe – something that has already garnered tangible political interest.
