DHAKA - New research suggests the Bangladeshi apparel industry should look to build in additional margins in order to improve labour compliance and sustainability in the sector. The researchers claim it is time to do what is "economically possible and socially necessary," to drive social reform in the industry. The report looks in detail at the costs and profits associated with the production of various garment items for Bangladesh garment manufacturers and ultimately concludes that increased spending on compliance would be "very difficult" based on current margins.
