In early October, three organisations - the World Weather Attribution group, Climate Central and Covering Climate - held a seminar that asked: “How do we know climate change fuelled that storm?” The answer was clear - it is no longer true to say that we cannot link extreme weather events to climate change.
It’s time that we should stop calling extreme weather events “natural disasters”: they are climate disasters, but to combat this, we need to build resilience and defuel the economy. One way is more sustainable agriculture – especially in cotton – reducing input use, and soil loss and another solution is to increase the use of renewable energy.
