LONDON - A new report on the quality of secondhand clothing exported to Uganda and Tanzania from the 'Global North' indicates that only 1.1 to 1.3% is waste while another 2.9 to 3.2% has value only as rags.
The study by the Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) programme, funded by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (UKFCDO) and implemented in partnership with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), suggests the vast majority has value as used clothing.
