DHAKA - Swedish retailer H&M has become the first major fashion company to increase the prices it pays for orders from Bangladesh to reflect the new increase in the minimum wage for garment workers.

The new minimum wage of BDT 12,500 ($114) a month represents a 56% increase from the BDT 8,000 ($75) which had been in place since 2018 - although unions and campaigners say it is still not enough to meet basic needs.
