DHAKA - A coalition of five NGOs is calling for an increase in the minimum wage for garment workers in Bangladesh which they say is currently well below the cost of living.
The Ethical Trading Institute (ETI), Amfori, Fair Labor Association (FLA), Fair Wear and Mondiaal FNV have written a joint letter to Liaquet Ali Molla, the chairman of Bangladesh's Minimum Wage Board.
In the letter, they set out their support for local union demands for a substantial increase in the minimum wage for garment workers which has been BDT8,000 (US$75) a month since 2018.
