BRUSSELS - Textile waste prevention measures imposed by the European Union "have not yet yielded any tangible results”, according to a new report from the Zero Waste Europe (ZWE) network.
ZWE's study, entitled A Zero Waste Vision for Fashion, calls for a ban on the destruction of unsold fashion goods by large companies and stringent targets for both textile waste prevention and primary resource use.
The European Parliament recently approved the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which includes a ban on the destruction of unsold textile products, but the final shape of the legislation will depend on negotiations with European Union (EU) member governments.
