BRUSSELS - Textiles will be at the centre of a bid to create a circular economy in the new European Green Deal, announced this week by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Textiles, along with other "carbon-intensive industries" like steel and cement, will be the focus of attention of a new circular economy action plan, to be tabled in March 2020, as part of a broader EU industrial strategy.
It will include a sustainable product policy with “prescriptions on how we make things” in order to use less materials, and ensure products can be reused and recycled, said President von der Leyen.
