DELHI – A new report identifies some of the bottlenecks which currently prevent more of the 7.8 million tonnes of textile waste accumulated in India each year from being recycled back into the global supply chain.
The report, commissioned by the Fashion for Good initiative, says that more than half (51%) of India's textile waste is post-consumer waste with pre-consumer waste making up another 42% and the other 7% being imported.
It says that India’s textile waste accounts for 8.5% of the global total. Some 59% is reused or recycled locally but only a small fraction makes it back into the global supply chain.
