WASHINGTON DC - Products made in the Xinjiang region of China are being sold direct to US consumers by online retailer Temu - which recently overtook ultra fast fashion giant Shein in sales, according to digital vetting platform Ultra Information Solutions.
It comes amidst new efforts to close a legal loophole in the US which allows companies like Shein and Temu to evade the requirements of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) which bans imports from Xinjiang into the US on the presumption they are made with forced labour.
Tel Aviv-based Ultra says it found at least 10 items made or sold by businesses in Xinjiang on Temu - where their company links and origins are obscured - which are available to US consumers.
