NUREMBURG - A research initiative which aims to increase the use of bio-based plastic materials in the textile industry is seeking applications for funding from research and development projects.
Biotexfuture, a five year initiative led by sportswear giant Adidas and the North Rhine-Westphalia Technical University of Aachen, is one of four bio-based innovation programmes supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
Its goal is to promote the use of bio-based raw materials to increase sustainability in the textile industry in which currently more than 73 per cent of all fibres are petroleum-based.
