WASHINGTON DC - The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) trade body is seeking more time for its members to comply with reporting requirements for the world's first ban on PFAS chemicals in products.
The US state of Maine last year became the first to prohibit the sale of products containing intentionally-added PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), the so-called forever chemicals.
While the ban does not take effect until 2030, manufacturers have to report the presence of PFAS chemicals in any product to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection from January 2023.
