KUPPAM - Garment workers at a factory in India which exclusively supplies US brand Columbia Sportswear are paid illegally low wages and subjected to verbal use and sexual harassment, according to a new report.
Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) launched an investigation into complaints by workers at the factory, in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, which is owned by Shahi Exports, one of India's largest garment manufacturers.
And, after a two day fact-finding mission by two lawyers and a field organiser, the initiative is backing the complaints of around 2,000 workers who staged a five day protest outside the factory last month. Shahi Exports strongly denies the allegations.
