WILMINGTON – The Lycra Company has launched a new sustainable fibre made from 100 per cent textile waste - Thermolite Ecomade - which is designed for insulation for outdoor clothing.
It recycles textile waste from cutting room floors, that would have been sent to a landfill or incinerated, and transforms it into high performance fibres for garment insulation.
Fabric scraps collected from garment makers go through a four-step process - depolymerisation and refining, chip manufacture, fibre formation, and batting and insulation production.
