RALEIGH - Researchers from North Carolina State University say they have successfully used digital printing on cotton fabric to recreate traditional denim more sustainably.

The NC State team printed ink on cotton achieving a "good match on average" for six different styles of jeans - although they admitted that some proved easier to replicate than others.

The researchers published their findings in the peer-reviewed Journal of Imaging, Science and Technology where they concluded that they expected digital printing to be a viable method for making new jeans in the future, with less waste.
