VANCOUVER – Global industry non-profit Textile Exchange has released its 2021 Organic Cotton Market Report revealing that the 2019/20 season saw the largest volume of organic cotton fibre harvested globally to-date.
Some 229,280 farmers grew 249,153 tonnes of organic cotton on 588,425 hectares of certified organic land in 21 countries - a four per cent increase in fibre and the fourth consecutive year to show growth.
Organic cotton still accounted for less than one per cent of the global cotton harvest that season, the Textile Exchange report reveals, however it is expected to "skyrocket" by 48 per cent this year.
