AMSTERDAM – Dutch sustainability initiative Fashion for Good (FFG) has kick-started a Viscose Traceability Project which assesses blockchain technology’s performance in tracing the cellulosic fibre throughout the textile supply chain.
For this, brands Bestseller and Kering, fibre manufacturers Lenzing, ENKA and Tangshan Sanyou, and blockchain specialist Textile Genesis have come together to simulate the transaction of responsibly sourced viscose from forest to finished product.
“A critical step towards a circular fashion industry is verifying that the materials used are sourced sustainably, processed responsibly and can provide the information needed to ensure their value can be recaptured at the end-of-use,” said FFG’s managing director, Katrin Ley.
