SYDNEY – An Australian wool grower and the developer of pain relief medication Tri-Solfen, Chick Olsson believes Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) should facilitate more brand and retailer farm tours, as to debunk the animal welfare stigma surrounding mulesing.
Olsson alludes to tours which hosted Gap and Lululemon representatives that proved “very eye opening”. “It showed how passionate the wool growers are about what they do and their sheep and how much work actually goes in providing their brands with the wool.”
He believes that animal welfare organisation PETA has had “10 free years bashing us with no defence”, and so wants to highlight to industry stakeholders that mulesing is not only effective but can be undertaken with animal welfare uncompromised.
