WASHINGTON DC - The fashion industry has been too slow to react to concerns over the use of forced labour in China's cotton industry, according to a leading expert.
In an exclusive interview with Ecotextile News, Dr Adrian Zenz said growing international pressure on China could lead to concessions which could improve life for Uyghur Muslim prisoners in the Xinjiang region.
But he accused western brands and retailers of dragging their heels on tackling forced labour in the region which produces a fifth of global cotton supplies.
