GLAND – As many as 15 leading apparel brands including H&M, Primark, Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger are joined by WWF, the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) and ZDHC in signing a new open letter to the industry, urging that it aligns to rebuild the fashion and textiles sectors with sustainability and environmental wellbeing made a priority.
Deemed complementary to the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) ‘Action in the Global Garment Industry’ plan, the open letter calls on stakeholders to support the deployment of Green Economic Recovery Plans, strengthen corporate sustainability commitments and enhance traceability and transparency.
“The fashion, apparel and textile sector has been hard hit by this pandemic, leaving the livelihoods of millions as well as the future of many companies at risk. As the industry starts to recover, it’s critical that it charts a new course that takes the whole sector in a more sustainable direction,” said Stuart Orr, WWF Global Freshwater Lead.
