BRUSSELS – Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have backed the ‘shadow strategy’ set out by a collective of 65 civil organisations in late April, which offers recommendations for improvements in the textile, garment, leather and footwear industries (TGLF) both from an environmental and social sustainability standpoint.
These MEPs have now written a letter to the European Commission, which is soon expected to detail the terms of its ‘comprehensive strategy for textiles’, saying that it “warmly welcomes this civil society proposal” and “invites the Commission to follow the approach of this proposal in the development of the EU textile strategy.”
