LEICESTER – Following a three-week break, fashion retailer Next was yesterday forced to stop taking orders within two hours of recommencing business, after it exceeded capacity for the day.

Next shut down its site on March 26, around the time the UK went into lockdown, stating that it would otherwise be putting its warehouse workers at risk of the fast-spreading coronavirus pandemic.

But having re-opened online at 7am, it was inundated with orders and was forced to suspend trading on its site for the day.
