OSLO - The Norwegian Research Council (NRC) has agreed to fund two projects exploring ways to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion and textile industry.
The NRC is to provide €1 million (US$1.1 million) to both the LASTING project of the Consumption Research Norway (SIFO) organisation to make clothing - and other products - more durable and to start-up company Fjong which aims to develop the clothing rental sector.
LASTING's aim is "sustainable prosperity through product durability", while Lifespan looks at increasing the clothing rental sector to create “an endless, sustainable wardrobe". Both projects are due to start next year.
