LONDON – A group of academics with specialisms in the fashion sector have formed the Union of Concerned Researchers in Fashion (UCRF), aimed at drawing attention to the crucial role of building and sharing knowledge in making the fashion system sustainable.
The Union, which will remain independent from the industry, organisations and institutions, will seek to address problems such of the fashion sector’s ‘growth logic’ by taking a straightforward approach to drive real change – bypassing those with a lukewarm interest in sustainability who currently muddy the waters.
Dr Kate Fletcher, one of the researchers behind the manifesto, spoke with Ecotextile News to explain what the newly-established group hope to achieve and what its manifesto for change could really mean in practice.
