A new report reveals that only 54 per cent of the PET plastic bottles sold in cities are recycled in six Southeast Asian countries where 660,000 tonnes of PET bottles were landfilled or dumped last year.
GA Circular carried out the new report, entitled Full Circle: Accelerating the circular economy for post-consumer PET bottles in Southeast Asia, for the Coca-Cola Company.
More than half of the PET recycled goes to the textile industry to create polyester and the report warns that the amount collected will decline if current trends continue.
