GENEVA – The United Nations Human Rights Council will, this week, negotiate a landmark treaty which aims to ensure transnational corporations (TNC) are held accountable for human rights violations which take place within their businesses and supply chains.
The outcome of the summit will be of great interest to many fashion industry stakeholders as a lack of culpability for large, multinational organisations sourcing from regions where rights violations are rife has long been often cited as one of the most substantial problems facing the sector.
Campaigners hope that any precedent established will then also be adopted, or at least inform new legislation, in nations around the world.
