Xinjiang cotton to maintain output despite sanctions

China expects cotton production in Xinjiang to remain strong in 2025.

Cotton production in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is set to strengthen despite a range of forced labour-related existing and impending sanctions, said State-run media outlet Xinhuanet.

The Beijing-based news organisation noted how the Xinjiang province continued to be China’s cotton powerhouse in 2024 with a production of over 5.68 million tonnes, accounting for 92.2% of the national total.
