Secondhand clothes traders in Africa challenge “misinformation” by campaigners who respond by insisting low quality fast fashion means more used clothing is effectively textile waste
The Mitumba Consortium Association of Kenya (MCAK) trade body is calling on global stakeholders to combat what it calls "misinformation" about the secondhand clothing industry in Africa.
MCAK says that the industry employs and clothes millions of Africans but is in danger of collapse because of increasing costs and regulations from the European Union (EU) designed to reduce the shipping of "textile waste" to Africa.
