European chemical watchdog raises pollution concerns about the use of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in products, including textiles
An investigation by the European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) has raised environmental concerns about the use of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) to make products, including textiles, less flammable.
ECHA found that non-polymeric aromatic BFRs are released into the environment throughout the product lifecycle, with the waste stage being a particular concern, and pollute due to their persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity.
