ITHACA - A research team at Cornell University in the US claims to have developed a sustainable way to remove dye and oil from waterways using discarded silk yarn.

The studies, which have involved work on silk at the fabric, yarn, and fibre stages, showed that yarn unravelled from silk fabric, soaked up methylene blue (MB), a common textile dye, from water at a substantially higher rate than other forms of silk they tested.
